December 5th marks the opening of Maisie Paradise Shearring’s exibition “El Príncipe Feliz” at the Laboratorio Formentini in Milan.
Maisie, a young british illustrator, won the 2015 Bologna Children’s Book Fair - SM Foundation International Award for Illustration, a prize awarded every year during the Exibition, whose purpose is provide emerging artists with the proper means to create a picturebook, later to be published worldwide by Ediciones SM.
A presentation through a personal exhibition is also part of the Award.
Over the past two years Maisie has focused on studying and illustrating Oscar Wilde’s all-time classic “The Happy Prince”. The result is a unique book conveying an original rendition of the story, where illustrations and colours give a magical feel both to children and grown-ups.
The Exhibition premiered at the Fair’s 2016 edition and marks the beginning of a collaboration between BCBF and Laboratorio Formentini, aiming to spread children’s and teen’s illustration.
On Monday Dec 5, 9am to 4pm, Maisie P. Shearring is scheduled to hold a masterclass (together with Teresa Tellechea, Fundaciòn SM’s responsible for the Award).
The aim is share the work she has done on her album, from project to technique.
“El Príncipe Feliz” is still unpublished in Italy, but it will be available for purchase during the Exhibition.
The event is a brainchild of Mimaster Illustrazione - Officine Buena Vista, in collaboration with Bologna’s Children’s Book Fair, Fundaciòn SM, supported by Laboratorio Formentini per l’Editoria.
