2025 Regulations


1 - PURPOSE OF THE AWARD

The Bologna Children’s Book Fair – Fundación SM International Award for Illustration is a an initiative jointly organized by BolognaFiere S.p.A., whose registered offices are located at Viale della Fiera 20, 40127 Bologna (Italy) and Fundación Santa Maria – Ediciones SM (SM), whose registered offices are located at calle Impresores num. 2 – P.E. Prado del Espino – 28660 Boadilla del Monte/Madrid (Spain). This initiative is part of the activities of the "Illustrators Exhibition" (an Exhibition organized by BolognaFiere spa at the Bologna fairground on the occasion of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair) to encourage and support new talents in illustration, the special quality of whose work has yet to be acknowledged by the professional world.


2 - ELIGIBILITY

Candidates eligible for participation shall be illustrators fulfilling the criteria specified under article 3 below who have already been selected for the Illustrators Exhibition at the 2025 Bologna Children’s Book Fair and subject to the Rules of Entry established by Bologna Children's Book Fair for such edition. 


3 - ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

This annual Award will be granted to one of the young illustrators (under 35 years of age) selected each year from the Bologna Children’s Book Fair's Illustrators Exhibition: the only requirements for eligibility are being under 35 years of age on the date of selection, not winning the prize in previous years of the Illustrators Exhibition and not being an employee of BolognaFiere S.p.A. or SM, or their affiliates.


4 - AWARD

The winner shall receive from SM a prize of 15,000.00 euros gross and is committed to create a children’s picture book to be published by SM, according to the terms and conditions set below.

The following year, the book will be presented during the Bologna Children's Book Fair and a special exhibition will be organized to highlight the work of the winning artist.


5 - JURY AND AWARD
The Award will be assigned by an international jury consisting of experts in illustration, jointly nominated by BolognaFiere and SM, not including the panelists who have chosen the works for the Illustrators Exhibition. The Jury will meet in Bologna on the occasion of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair. The name of the winner will be officially announced during the Fair and subsequently also on the Bologna Children's Book Fair’s and SM's websites.


6 - PUBLICATION OF THE WORK

SM shall be free to regulate the modalities of publication of the work of the winner.


7 - PROMOTION
 All participants authorize BolognaFiere and SM to use their name and image for promotional purposes regarding the Award. Furthermore, the winner will be required to be available for the Award events described in article 4 and to participate in the presentation and promotional events regarding his work published by SM. 


8 - CANCELLATION AND CHANGES TO THE INITIATIVE

BolognaFiere and/or SM shall be entitled to cancel the Initiative at their sole discretion without any compensation being due to participants by BolognaFiere and/or SM.


9 - PRIVACY PROTECTION

BolognaFiere undertakes to process the personal data of the Award participants in compliance with the provisions of Regulation (EU) No. 2016/679, as well as with the guidelines and requirements laid down by the Data Protection Supervisory Authority and any other applicable regulation.

10 - NATURE OF THE INITIATIVE
The Initiative governed by these regulations qualifies for the exemption specified under art. 6 of Italian Presidential Decree no. 430 dated 26th October 2001.


11 - JURISDICTION AND COMPETENT COURT
Relationships between participants in this Initiative and BolognaFiere shall be governed by the Italian law. All disputes shall be subject to Italian jurisdiction and the sole powers of the Bologna Court. Relationships between participants in this Initiative and SM shall be governed by the Spanish law. All disputes shall be subject to Spanish jurisdiction and the sole powers of the Madrid Court.


12 - FINAL PROVISIONS

Participation in the Initiative and use of the award shall be entirely free of charge and entail no constraints or commitment of any kind other than the requirements set out in these Rules of Entry. By entering into the Initiative participants agree to abide by these Rules of Entry. All BolognaFiere spa and SM decisions are final and without possibility of appeal.
