Women in publishing

PublisHer is a global platform dedicated to the advancement of women in the publishing industry created in 2019 by Bodour Al Qasimi (founder and CEO of Kalimat Group, UAE, former president of IPA International Publishers Association). Its mission is to create spaces for female publishing professionals to connect, learn and support each other through mentorship programmes, networking events and initiatives developed to empower them in addressing the ongoing gender imbalance in the international book industry.

PublisHer has grown into an influential movement that creates real change and inspires women around the world to pursue and realise their professional goals. At BCBF 2024, the PublisHer area - made possible through a partnership with Bologna Children's Book Fair - presented a programme of meetings, a book exhibition and networking opportunities for the second year running, offering an open space to foster connections and facilitate dialogue between publishing industry stakeholders.

BCBF 2024 was also the stage for the first ever PublisHer Excellence Awards, recognising female publishing professionals from around the world who have made a difference in their field. Divided into three categories, the awards serve as a powerful catalyst to encourage striving for excellence and to inspire a greater sense of community and collaboration across the industry, as well as to raise awareness of the many challenges many women still face in their careers.
