In the framework of the 62nd Bologna Children’s Book Fair, BolognaFiere and AIE - Italian Publishers Association, in partnership with IPA – International Publishers Association will be awarding the 13th BOP prize - Bologna Prize for the Best Children’s Publishers of the Year.
The aim is to highlight the editorial projects, professional skills and intellectual qualities of work produced by publishing houses all over the world in 2024. At the same time, the prize is designed to foster a mutual exchange of knowledge and ideas among different countries, diverse areas and cultural identities across the globe. Six prizes shall be awarded, one for each geographical area: Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, Central, Caribbean and South America and Oceania.
The prize consists of a certificate acknowledging the achievement and shall be awarded to the prize-winning publishers during the 2025 Bologna Children’s Book Fair official opening on 31st March 2025. BolognaFiere shall promote the prize-winning publishers by means of its communication tools (website, newsletter, etc.) and a major international press campaign; and will also provide the winners with special visibility at the fair, through a dedicated showcase and a sign of distinction on their stands.
2 – REQUIREMENTS
The BOP shall be awarded on the basis of the nominations received from publishers participating in 2019-2025 editions of Bologna Children’s Book Fair, by Publishers’ Associations from all over the world, and by institutions promoting books and reading. Candidates for the Award may include all specialist children’s book publishers or publishing houses with significant young-reader production line, provided they have not been recipients of the award in the previous editions.
Publishers not exhibiting at the 2025 Bologna Children’s Book Fair may also be nominated for the Award.
3 – SELECTION PROCESS
Members of International Publishers Associations, cultural institutions devoted to book and reading promotion worldwide and the publishing houses registered for the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in the period 2019-2025 are invited to nominate a maximum of seventeen publishing houses, of which up to five from their own geographical area (not necessarily their own country) and up to two nominations from each of the other geographical areas. Winners of the previous Bologna Prize editions cannot be put forward and it is not possible for publishers to nominate themselves.
Nominations must be made by 20th January 2025 by filling in the prize application form.
BolognaFiere, AIE and IPA shall collect the names of candidate publishing houses and proceed to make five nominations for each geographical area by counting the number of applications received.
These five nominations shall form the set of candidate publishers for the prize and the names of the publishing houses will be published in the Bologna Children’s Book Fair website from 28 January 2025.
Exhibitors at the 2025 Bologna Children’s Book Fair shall be invited to select the publishing house of their choice by filling in the prize form available in the reserved area of the Book Fair website accessible using the password already distributed.
