2025 edition winner

Nina Pieper is the winner of the 2025 ARS IN FABULA Grant awarded each year to a young illustrator under the age of 30, selected for the Illustrators Exhibition of the Bologna Children's Book Fair.

Nina Pieper (1998) studied Visual Communication at KHB Berlin from 2017 to 2018. Following this, she worked at a bookshop specializing in children's literature while also participating in various printing workshops. Since 2020, Nina has been pursuing a degree in Visual Communication (Illustration) at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design.

The Jury’s motivation:
The choice of Nina Pieper as winner of the 2025 edition of the Ars in Fabula Grant Award was motivated by the narrative capacity of her work and its rich, flowing illustration technique. The skilful use of exuberant colour combinations makes for a very personal artistic style. In our view, Nina’s stylistic register is well-suited to children’s publishing.

Members of the 2025’s Jury:

  • Luigi Raffelli - Graphic designer and Illustrator

The winner is given a free place on the ARS IN FABULA - Master Degree Course in Illustration for Publishing, during which the selected artist will work on a book project assigned by one of the course publishing partners.

The initiative, promoted by ARS IN FABULA, a higher education institute directly involved in the field of high education and promotion of children's books in collaboration with Bologna Children's Book Fair, aims to sustain and train new talent through a postgraduate illustration course.
