Organisations all over the world have nominated their favourite candidates to the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award 2016. According to tradition, the laureate or laureates will be announced at the Illustrator’s Café by link from Stockholm, Sweden and presented by a jury member to the visitors of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair. This year 215 authors, illustrators, storytellers and reading promotion individuals and organisations from 59 countries are nominated.
This will be the 14th time the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award is announced. Founded in 2002 after the death of Astrid Lindgren, the purpose is to strengthen and increase the interest for children’s and young adult literature globally. The award amounts to SEK 5 million (approx. 527 000 EUR) which underlines the fact that promotion reading among children and young adults is a top priority for Sweden. Laureates must actively safe guard the democratic values in the spirit of Astrid Lindgren, and their work or activities must be of the highest quality, regardless of language or nationality.
Who or whom will receive the award this year? Please join us for the announcement at the Illustrator’s Café at 1:00 pm on April 5th.
