Werhle

Nina Werhle

Nina Werhle (1984) founded with Evelyne Laube the illustration studio It’s Raining Elephants based in Lucerne. Since 2008, they have been developing their own projects and doing commissioned work. Their picture books, live visuals and illustrations for diverse applications engage the viewer in a playful visual dialogue. They also design and distribute the hoi ceramics line and teach narrative drawing at the Lucerne School of Art and Design and other institutions. They are both mothers of small kids, which greatly inspires our imagination and visual output.

It’s Raining Elephants received the International Award for Illustration at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in 2012 and some other laurels. In 2018 they founded Bolo Klub, a long-term project that supports an emerging generation of picture book artists in Switzerland and brings them into contact with the publishing world in Bologna.
