At the Caixa Forum in Madrid, within the exhibition ‘Ilustrar. La ilustración contemporánea en la literatura infantil’ you can admire the art of the 8 illustrators who were awarded the International Award for Illustration Bologna Children’s Book Fair and Fundación SM, 2010-2017.
These fabulous artists are Philip Giordano (Italy, 2010), Page Tsou (Taiwan, 2011), Evelyne Laube and Nina Wehrle (Switzerland, 2012), Satoe Tone (Japan, 2013), Catarina Sobral (Portugal, 2014), Maisie Paradise Shearring (UK, 2015), Juan Palomino (Mexico, 2016) and Manuel Marsol (Spain, 2017).
8 different styles and minds that have succeeded in giving voice to the major trends of illustration around the world, also astonishing the various juries composed, year by year, by international personalities from publishing, illustration and graphic design.
The exhibition is the ideal opportunity to get a glimpse at the evolution of illustrative style and techniques from the winners and their countries.
The location where the exhibition takes place, the CaixaForum in Madrid, is very interesting in itself. This ex power station of Mediodía, was destroyed by a fire and has now been restored by the architects Herzog & De Meuron.
The latest entry to BCBF and Fundación SM is the Croatian illustrator Vendi Vernić, who won the 2018 Award and will work on her illustrated book, together with a personal exhibition, for the 2019 Bologna Children's Book Fair.
