The Illustrators Exhibition was opened at the all'Itabashi Art Museum in Tokyo

Today the Illustrators Exhibition was opened at the all'Itabashi Art Museum in Tokyo and began the Japanese leg of its international tour.

 

The event was attended Princess Akishinomiya and Itabashi Mayor Takeshi Sakamoto.
At this special occasion were nine of the eleven Japanese artists selected for the Illustrators Exhibition this year and the two notable giants of Japanese illustration Katsumi Komagata and Taro Miura, who was also a member of the jury this year.


In her opening speech the Princess recalled her recent visit to Bologna and expressed how much she had enjoyed the exhibition, under the guidance of Taro Miura. There was a large contingent of diplomatic representatives from different countries at the event and everybody was welcomed in speeches by the deputy director dell'Itabashi Art Museum Kiyoko Matsuoka Ayami Moriizumi, the president JBBY Yumiko Bando and Elena Pasoli from the Bologna Fiere.


To celebrate the art of Japanese illustration and the fifty Illustrators Exhibition, fifty panels were produced that tell the story of the show. It depicts a path to show how Japanese illustrators have, year after year, participated in this prestigious exhibition from the Bologna Children’s Bookfair
