Regulations - Indie Authors Children and YA Book Jacket Award

1. AIMS
“Indie Authors Children and YA Book Jacket Award” is the title of an Initiative (hereinafter “the
Initiative”), organised by BolognaFiere S.p.A., in partnership with BolognaBookPlus, brand
extension of Bologna Children’s Book Fair (“BCBF”), an exhibition organised by said
BolognaFiere to be held from 31 March to 3 April 2025 at the Bologna Exhibition Centre.
 
The theme initiative includes the evaluation and award of the best cover of a children or YA
self-published book.
 
2. PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS
Self-publishers from each country born before 31 December 2007 and who have published
their work before 30 June 2024 through the most important national and international self-
publishing platforms (for e.g., Amazon KDP, Lulu.com, Youcanprint, Ilmiolibro.it, Passione
Scrittore etc.) can apply for her/his cover.
 
Participants must fill in the online Participation Form and submit - in digital format – the cover
(1) of the self-published book, made in black and white or in color and created with any
technique, in accordance with the modalities indicated in Art. 4.
 
Participation in the Contest shall imply full acceptance of these Regulations.
 
3. FILE SPECIFIC TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
Covers of any kind and size are allowed.
 
Digital file (to be submitted as indicated in Art. 4) must have the following formats:
 
File: JPG or PNG
Resolution: 300 DPI
 
Covers already published with other publishers or with editorial titles on the cover shall not
be taken into consideration.
 
The author therefore undertakes to present his/her original cover and guarantees that the
work is self-published and has not been previously published by any publisher under penalty
of exclusion from the contest.
 
4. FILE SUBMISSION
Registration and file submission shall be carried out exclusively on the Bologna Children's
 
Participants must register to the Reserved Area website
https://www.bolognachildrensbookfair.com/, fill in the Participation form and upload online
the image of his/her cover.
 
5. DEADLINE
Registration and file submission shall be accepted FROM 16 th September 2024 TO 14 th
February 2025.
Entries submitted after the deadline of 14th February 2025 shall not be accepted or taken
into consideration.
 
6. SELECTION
Files – submitted no later than 14 th February 2025 - that meet the Regulation
requirements will be examined and the winner selected from the submissions by an
International Jury of experts. The decision of the Jury shall be final.
 
The jury will identify a first group of finalists within which the winning cover of the Initiative
will be chosen.
 
The winning cover will be presented as part of the 2025 edition of BBPLUS and ample
prominence will be given to the winner and to the finalists.
 
It is specified that the winner is not the illustrator (which will also be mentioned) but the self-
publisher author of the work that has chosen and commissioned the illustration.
 
The winner resident in non-European territory will be awarded a contribution of 500 euros to
support the trip to Bologna on the occasion of the 62nd edition of the Bologna Children’s
Book Fair (the contribution will be 250 euro if the author is resident in Europe).
 
7. LIABILITY
Participants declare that they are the authors of the works and of the illustrations, or that
there are the owners of the relevant copyrights, and expressly release BolognaFiere from all
liability and claims by third parties in relation to the contents of the illustrations.
 
8. CANCELLATION OF AND CHANGES TO THE INITIATIVE
BolognaFiere may, at its sole discretion, cancel the Initiative or change its dates, without
incurring any liability whatsoever towards the participants.
 
9. PRIVACY POLICY
BolognaFiere undertakes to process the personal data of the participants in the Initiative
pursuant to the provisions of Regulation (EU) No. 2016/679, the guidelines and provisions of
the Italian Data Protection Authority, and any other applicable legislation. For further details
on the processing of personal data by BolognaFiere, please refer to the information sheet
attached to the Initiative Participation Form, which must be duly completed.
 
10. ITALIAN JURISDICTION AND COMPETENT COURT
On applying, candidates accept all rules and regulations that BolognaFiere may issue.
Relations between participants and BolognaFiere shall be governed by Italian law. Any
dispute arising with regard to the Initiative shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the Italian
judicial authorities with exclusive competence of the Court of Bologna.
