Buying and selling rights is the beating heart of the book fair.
The Bologna Rights Centre hosts those exhibitor publisher rights professionals across the industry, trading rights in both adult and children’s publishing.
Global Rights Exchange (GRE) is a dedicated rights trading platform, enabling exhibitors and visitors to continue to showcase, discover and trade rights across the world. Comprising BCBF, BBPlus and Bologna Licensing Trade Fair/Kids, it offers the international community 365 support, and the opportunity to ensure that the Rights Centre can play its part throughout the year.
How to Sell Rights and Understand Licensing in Children’s Publishing takes place on the day before the Fair opens, Sunday 12 April 2026. It is the definitive training event for all those wishing to get into rights, or in their first role in the area. It is also an excellent grounding for authors, editors, and all those in publishing.
The new session this year is: AI’s Impact on Rights Contracts by Kevin Stewart, Contracts People
This is one of the hottest pressure points in publishing right now. AI hasn’t just added a new clause or two; it’s forcing publishers and authors to rethink what “rights” even mean. Contracts weren’t written for AI - it now introduces uses that don’t fit neatly into any of the existing categories: print; ebooks; audiobooks; translations; film/tv adaptations. This session will outline how publishers are dealing with these challenges, and how contracts are changing.
