Elena Chiti is a cultural historian of contemporary Egypt and a literary translator from Arabic and French into Italian. She is an associate professor at Stockholm University and a translation teacher at SSML of Vicenza. She has translated works by Fatema Mernissi, Sherif Majdalani, Nagib Mahfuz, Samar Yazbek, Khaled Khalifa and, among the poets, Dunya Mikhail and Faraj Bayrakdar. She was awarded the “Achille Marazza” poetry translation prize in 2018 for her translation of Bayrakdar’s Marāya al-ghiyāb (Mirrors of Absence). She co-edited In Guerra non mi cercate, an anthology of poems of the Arab revolutions.
