ATTIVITÀ EDITORIALE
The children’s division has been a priority at Companhia das Letras
Group since Companhia das Letrinhas was born, our first
children’s imprint, created in 1992.
Currently our four children’s division imprints — Companhia das
Letrinhas, Pequena Zahar, Brinque-Book, and Escarlate — lead the
local market, holding 14% of the market share in children’s books
in Brazil. Our team is committed to publishing books that are
attuned to the child’s sensibility, capable of stimulating reasoning,
creativity, and a lifelong habit of reading from the very outset.
Encouraging reading as a point of encounter between students
and teachers, parents, and children, adults, and kids, we hope to
contribute toward the formation of a young readership and the
construction of a better, fairer, and less unequal Brazil.
Companhia das Letrinhas has a remarkable tradition in the
Brazilian children’s publishing field. We were four times
finalists of the Bologna Prize Best Publisher of the Year (2017-
2020), and hold several national prizes in our catalog, such as
Jabuti Prize for Best Children’s Book (Brazilian most highly
regarded literary prize); National Foundation for Children and
Young Adult Books Prize; UNESCO Chair in Reading etc.
We are proud and happy to be home to several renowned authors and best-sellers, including Maurice Sendak, Astrid Lindgren, Shel Silverstein, Dr. Seuss, Beatrix Potter, Dav Pilkey, Babette Cole, Lane Smith, Alan Ahlberg, William Steig, Mo Willems, Suzy Lee, Heena Baek, Joaquín Camp, Beatrice Alemagna, and many others.
Our list stands out for its variety and diversity, accompanying
young readers from the cradle to the age of thirteen.
