The celebration for the 2021 BOP – Bologna Prize for the Best Children’s Publishers of the Year is a key part of the BCBF Online Special Edition. The BOP Prize is awarded each year to showcase editorial projects, professional skills and intellectual qualities of work from publishing houses all over the world. Let’s meet Pato Lógico, nominee for Europe!

Pato Lógico

Pato Lógico is a Portuguese independent publishing house created by André Letria as a means to do books with freedom — freedom of thought, freedom of choice and freedom to take chances. We publish defiant books for curious readers of all ages. Our books stimulate critical thinking and promote reflexion about the human being and the world.

Pato Lógico is also an educational project. Using books as a point of departure, we created a service that offers a set of workshops, author’s sessions and touring exhibitions for schools, libraries or other improvised venues. This way we promote art and culture in general, fight exclusion by working closely with education agents and creating easy access to all.

Pato Lógico’s most successful books are Se eu fosse um livro (If I were a book), translated in 16 languages, Mar (Sea) distinguished with a non-fiction mention in the Bologna Ragazzi Awards and translated in 9 languages, and  A Guerra (War), with over a dozen awards and translated in 9 languages.
