Join the Revolution!

Giving Each Child Good Books

Bologna Children’s Book Fair is partnering IBBY Italia and Accademia Drosselmeier in the preparation of the 39th International IBBY- International Board on Books for Young People Congress, entitled “JOIN THE REVOLUTION! Giving Each Child Good Books”.

To mark the occasion, an international contest has been launched inviting illustrators, graphic designers and creatives to submit a POSTER encapsulating the theme of the Congress.

While the official Congress poster – designed by Italian artist Alessandro Sanna – has been in circulation for over two years promoting the event worldwide, the winning posters of the Contest will be a collective international celebration of the right of all the world’s children to read quality books.

Curated by Ibby Italia, the Congress will take place in Trieste from 30 August to 1 September 2024. All 82 National IBBY Sections in the world will attend, along with scholars, reading promoters, teachers, librarians, and publishers to look at the event’s major theme: reviving interest in the promotion of reading worldwide.

To mark this extraordinary event, Bologna Children’s Book Fair, the Italian Section of IBBY, and Accademia Drosselmeier have launched this special initiative to encourage all players of the book Community to commit to defending young readers’ rights.

Who can take part?

  • The contest is addressed to all players who work with authors and illustrators to promote quality books: book designers, graphic designers, visual artists, publishing houses, and, of course, illustrators wishing to take up the challenge of producing a poster as a means of communication.

The objectives:

  • Raise awareness of the pressing need to put into practice IBBY’s founding principles, first among these the right of every child to become a reader. The emphasis should be on "Every child" wherever in the world, and on "good" books in a world where reading and good books are the privilege of only a few;
  • Extend this principle and so close the gap between the haves and the have-nots. There is much talk of educational poverty. Books are a fail-safe way of remedying the situation.

The challenge for contest participants is to create a poster that will raise public awareness of the need to achieve these goals. The winning posters will be displayed in cities and towns, on school bulletin boards, as well as in public places like Post Offices, libraries, banks, public transport, etc., and is expected to have a far-reaching impact.
