Hsin Yi Foundation was founded by the founder of Yuen Foong Yu Group, Mr. Chuan Ho and his two sons in 1971. The initial goals of the Foundation were aimed to help the poor, disadvantaged people and granting scholarships. In 1977, Show-Chuan Ho and his wife, Sing-Ju Chang were aware of that not only parents of young children, but the whole society was alien to the importance of early childhood education in Taiwan. “ Institute of Early Childhood Education” was later established under the Foundation. The Institute has positioned itself as the bridge between theory and practice, between professionals and parents. “Safeguarding the Children’s Only Childhood” has become the motto of the Foundation. Founded in 1978, Hsin Yi was the first publishing house specializing in picture books for young children. Besides local origins, it also introduces classics books from the world. In 1987, Hsin Yi Children’s Picture Book Award was established as the first picture book award in Taiwan. It encourages local works, and nurtures local picture book artists. By its 31st year, 140 awards were given out, and more than 90 books were published.
