The celebration for the 2020 BOP – Bologna Prize for the Best Children’s Publishers of the Year is a key part of the BCBF Online Special Edition. The BOP Prize is awarded each year to showcase editorial projects, professional skills and intellectual qualities of work from publishing houses all over the world. Let’s meet Oratia Media, nominee for OCEANIA!
Oratia Media is an independent publisher of books based outside Auckland, New Zealand, with distribution across its home market, in Australia, North America, Asia and Europe. Found Since 2008 it has developed as a publisher of the Oratia Books list with a focus on children's, Māori, history and general non-fiction books; current output is around ten titles a year.
Oratia is a multicultural publisher with an active list of books about Māori culture and indigenous issues. Oratia participates in major international book fairs and have sold and bought rights from partners in various countries. Oratia is also an active member of the Publishers Association of New Zealand (PANZ); Peter has served on the PANZ Council since 2015, was President from June 2017 to June 2019, and is currently Immediate Past President with responsibility for international affairs and advocacy.
