The celebration for the 2021 BOP – Bologna Prize for the Best Children’s Publishers of the Year is a key part of the BCBF Online Special Edition. The BOP Prize is awarded each year to showcase editorial projects, professional skills and intellectual qualities of work from publishing houses all over the world. Let’s meet Oratia Media, winner for Oceania!

Oratia Media

Oratia Media is an independent publisher based outside Auckland, Aotearoa/New Zealand, with distribution across its home market, in Australia, North America, Asia and Europe. Founded as a publishing services business in 2000, since 2008 it has developed as a publisher of the Oratia Books list with a focus on children's, Māori, history and general non-fiction books. In 2021 we are publishing 15 new titles, half of which are children’s (mostly picture books). Oratia participates in major book fairs and sells and buys rights worldwide, while remaining grounded strongly in our home base in the rain forest of Oratia (‘place of the long-lingering sun’). Our publishing reflects a multicultural, multilingual and inclusive outlook, with a growing number of our children’s books being bilingual in English and Māori.
