The celebration for the 2021 BOP – Bologna Prize for the Best Children’s Publishers of the Year is a key part of the BCBF Online Special Edition. The BOP Prize is awarded each year to showcase editorial projects, professional skills and intellectual qualities of work from publishing houses all over the world. Let’s meet Pallas Editora, nominee for Central and South America!

Pallas Editora

Pallas Editora has been publishing books about African descendants themes for almost 50 years. We were among the forerunners in the construction of a catalogue that help the reader to understand and valorize the role played by the different African people in the Brazilian social formation. Our children and young readers catalogue is a consequence of this work and a result of its development. The reader will find books that not only recover our African heritages, but also have as protagonists black characters, mirroring our society dinamics.

The success of our efforts among the young readers, as among educators and parents of public and private schools’ students in Brazil have been translated by our books adoptions and the acquisitions in several official programs, libraries and schools in the whole country.
All this make us believe that we are in the right way, giving visibility to characters and histories of African-descendants in order that our books perform a decisive role in the young people formation, contributing for the construction of a more inclusive society.
