The celebration for the 2021 BOP – Bologna Prize for the Best Children’s Publishers of the Year is a key part of the BCBF Online Special Edition. The BOP Prize is awarded each year to showcase editorial projects, professional skills and intellectual qualities of work from publishing houses all over the world. Let’s meet Bronze Publishing, nominee for Asia! 

Bronze Publishing

Bronze Publishing Inc was founded in 1983, Tokyo by Machiko Wakatsuki having two roles: as a president and a chief editor. She launched the international publishing business in 2004 with the booth at Bologna Book Fair. Starting with Gomi Taro’s Rakugaki Doodle Book, Bronze has so far published titles internationally in 20 languages through co-production deals with 65 publishers around the world, including tupera tupera’s Polar Bear’s Underwear (800,000 copies sold in 11 languages), Yoshitake Shinsuke’s Imagination and Humorous Picture Book Series (3,800,000 copies are sold in 11 languages) and others. Bronze was nominated for BOP award in 2016 but could not take a prize. Also, Still Stuck by Shinsuke Yoshitake received a mention for the Bologna Ragazzi Award in the fiction category in 2017. Last year, in 2020, Machiko Wakatuki was elected as a judge and served on the jury for the 2020 Bologna Book Fair Illustration Awards.
