Rules of Entry 2020

1.  AIMS
“Children - spectators” is an international art contest (infra “the Contest”) organized by BolognaFiere S.p.A. as part of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, which will be held from 30th March to 2nd April 2020 at the Bologna exhibition centre.
The Contest takes place in the framework of "Mapping - A map on the aesthetics of performing arts for early years", a four-year project of artistic research, supported by the European Union, dedicated to the relationship between early childhood (children from zero to 6 years) and the performing arts.
The project involves 18 partners from 17 countries including BolognaFiere / Bologna Children's Book Fair and La Baracca - Testoni Ragazzi, a theatre hub for Youth in the city of Bologna (*).
The project involves the creation of an exhibition each year on the theme of the  "Children - spectators" (“the Exhibition” and, collectively, “the Exhibtions”).
The illustrators selected each year will be candidates for the final exhibition of the project "Mapping" .
The core of the final exhibition will be composed of the artwork created during the project by 4 prominent invited artists well-known in the field of Illustration for children, in addition to the works considered most interesting among those selected for the exhibitions devoted to the "children - spectators" during the four- year project .

2.  ENTRY’S THEME
The "children - spectators " of a performative event (theatre, dance, music, circus, etc.) in which the performer meets a young audience. 

3. ELIGIBILITY AND REQUIREMENTS
Individual illustrators or groups of illustrators of any nationality, provided they were born prior to 31st December 2002, whose artwork is intended for use in children’s books, are eligible to enter the Exhibition, either directly or through publishing houses, schools of art or associations of illustrators.
For registration and submission of the entries the participants must fill in the Entry form and submit the digital version of their work online  - one (1) illustration,  unpublished or published after January 1st, 2018, created in black and white or colour, produced using any technique –  to be submitted in accordance with article 5).
For published work, the participant must also provide the ISBN number of the publication.
Participation is free of charge and implies the full acceptance of the present Rules of entry.

Format: JPG or PNG
Resolution: 300 DPI

5. SUBMISSION PROCEDURE
The only official channel for registration and submission of the work is the Bologna Children’s Book Fair’s website www.bolognachildrensbookfair.com.
Participants must fill in the Entry form and upload their file online.

6. DEADLINE
The deadline is 18th December 2019 at 12 (noon - italian time).

7. JUDGING
All artwork sent by the stated deadline – 18th December 2019  - and meeting the specified requirements will be examined and selected by a panel  composed of experts (whose decision is final).
The illustrators selected by the panel of experts will take part in the exhibition the "children- spectators", while the participation in the final traveling exhibition of the project “Mapping”-  organized by various institutions in collaboration with BolognaFiere/ Bologna Children's Book Fair - will include a selection of the best illustrations by the artists that have already been selected for the exhibition devoted to the "children- spectators".
The great final exhibition, which will include a selection of the most interesting illustrations among those of the annual exhibitions of the project "Mapping"  on the “children- spectators" - in addition to the works  of the four artists invited to collaborate with the work groups of the project research - will be presented in Bologna during the Bologna Children's Book Fair 2022 before to undertake a tour that will take it to the partner cities during the international program of the Season Festivals 2022.

8. USE OF THE IMAGE
The illustrators remain the sole owners of their artwork but they acknowledge for free the non-exclusive right of BolognaFiere and of its partners to:

  • print the illustration to be featured in the exhibition/s;
  • reproduce their illustration on posters, leaflets and other Exhibition literature and also in any other medium (digital medium, on-line systems. etc.), also with the aim of promoting the Exhibition/s or other initiative related to the project “Mapping” and to the "Bologna Children's Book Fair";
  • publish or republish all or part of the “Maps books” foreseen by the project in which the selected illustration might be  included, in Italian or other languages and to grant these same rights to third parties in any place, for the duration of ten years;
  • grant to third parties the possibility to reproduce the illustration selected,if strictly related to the promotional purposes of the Exhibition.

The illustrators undertake not to advance claims in respect of the reproduction, publication and use in any form of their artwork by BolognaFiere and/or to third parties, whose intention is to promote around the world the artists featured in the Exhibition.

9. EXHIBITION CANCELLATION AND CHANGES
BolognaFiere may cancel the Exhibition or change the dates thereof. without anything being due to the participants. 

10. PRIVACY
BolognaFiere undertakes to process the personal data made available by you in compliance with the provisions of Regulation (EU) No. 2016/679, as well as with the guidelines and requirements laid down by the Data Protection Supervisory Authority and any other applicable regulation.

11. LAWS AND JURICTIONS
By submitting their entry,  the illustrators accept and acknowledge the Exhibition Regulations and all the rules that BolognaFiere may introduce. Relations between BolognaFiere and the illustrators are governed by Italian law.
Relations between BolognaFiere and the illustrators are governed by Italian law. Any disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of the Italian courts and to the sole competence of the law court of Bologna.
