Born in Milan, Matteo Stefanelli is a scholar, journalist and organizer of cultural events straddling the world of comics and the media. A lecturer at Milan’s Università Cattolica, Bergamo University and EESI in Angoulême, he founded and heads the web site Fumettologica, Italy’s major comics site. His articles on the media industry, pop culture and comics have been published in many different dailies and magazines, such as Corriere della Sera, Repubblica, Domani, Il Fatto Quotidiano, Il Post, Lo Straniero, Flash Art, Rolling Stone, Link Idee, Zero, Linus, Neuvième Art, and Fumo di China. Matteo has operated as curator or consultant on a range of exhibitions and communications projects focusing on comics for museums like the the Milan Triennale, Cité de la BD, Angoulême, the National Science and Technology Museum, and several businesses. He has been a programming consultant for Lucca Comics & Games for over 15 years, and has been the Artistic Director of the COMICON festival since 2019. His publications on comics include: Il secolo del Corriere dei piccoli (Rizzoli, 2008), Bande dessinée: une médiaculture (Armand Colin, 2012), Fumetto! 150 anni di storie italiane (Rizzoli, 2016).
